One thing that had previously been tough to make zero waste in my life was bread.

I love bread, I love carbs, and I eat a lot of it. But how do you get bread without the plastic packaging it comes in?

You have two choices: Either find a bakery that will allow you to bring your own cloth bag to put loaves in, or make it yourself.

Luckily for me, my boyfriend Dan has been making his own bread for years, and when I moved over to the UK to live with him in August, he began teaching me how to make my own loaves too.

DSC_0044

Travelling with a dietary requirement – be that vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free or gluten-free – can seem overwhelming, and many might let their eating habits restrict or completely write-off their travels.

But travel as a vegan CAN be done – and quite easily! I assure you.

I’ve been vegan for three years now, and wanted to share with you my top five tips for vegan travel.

I’ve made many mistakes in my vegan journey, especially when it comes to travel, so I’m hoping you can learn from me and avoid the same errors!

A very vegan weekend in Bristol

Enjoying an incredible vegan freakshake at VX Bristol

Last weekend was VegFest in London, and I was so excited to go.

Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out the way I wanted them too, and so I was unable to attend – which meant I missed out on hearing some of my favourite inspirational vegans speak, meet more like-minded individuals, and (of course) eat all the amazing vegan food on offer.

Safe to say, I was pretty disappointed to not be able to go.

A castle, a surprise vegan lunch, and more hot tubbing – Lake District, UK

DSC_0289

Rolling green hills and pastures, cobbled streets and dry stone walls transported me back a few centuries in my mind to imagine what life would have been like to live in this gorgeous country town in those old days.

Kendal, in the Lake District of England, has such a charm about it. I’m not sure whether that’s due to the abundance of tea rooms, the streets lined with heritage-conserved buildings, or the ruins of the old 13th century Kendal Castle I can spot on the hill overlooking us.

I could have happily walked the streets, stopping here and there for a cup of tea at one of the many teahouses manned by lovely and bubbly middle aged women, or for a pint at one of the many historic pubs with welcoming signs and charmingly dingy decor.

But there is much more to Kendal than just it’s beverage options and architecture appreciation.

It’s also the home of the Kendal Mint Cake, a delicious, tongue tingling sweet treat.

But I digress, it is also much more than that too.

VEGAN EATS: VX Bristol, United Kingdom

DSC_0035

Coming from a regional area of Australia, I can’t even begin to tell you how excited and gladly overwhelmed by the amount of choice I have access to now in terms of vegan food now that I’m living in the UK.

Faced with so much choice, I’ve decided to do the only rational thing: Start a new blog series called ‘Vegan Eats’ where I plan to test out as much vegan food and restaurants that I possibly can, both here in the UK and further afield.

Basically, I just want a good excuse to eat and eat and eat some more.

My Vegan, ‘Towards Minimalist’ Make Up Kit

DSC_0111

Since transitioning to a vegan lifestyle, my make up kit – like my toiletry bag – has undergone a transformation.

I’ve never been a huge make up person – my daily make up routine has, for a long time, only involved BB cream, powder, blush, mascara and lip balm – and I’m not make up artist or glamazon, but I am a person who enjoys make up on occasion.

It’s important to me to only purchase and use products that are both free from animal products and are not tested on animals.

Good food, good company, good sights – Byron Bay

DSC_0048

It’s always so lovely to meet new friends who have similar interests, hobbies and goals.

So I was super pleased to catch up with Amanda Round The Globe while she was in Byron Bay recently, for a day of adventure.

Together we devoured some delicious vegan food, walked a popular beachside track, visited the famed Byron Lighthouse, and even spotted some whales!
