A castle, a surprise vegan lunch, and more hot tubbing – Lake District, UK

DSC_0289

Rolling green hills and pastures, cobbled streets and dry stone walls transported me back a few centuries in my mind to imagine what life would have been like to live in this gorgeous country town in those old days.

Kendal, in the Lake District of England, has such a charm about it. I’m not sure whether that’s due to the abundance of tea rooms, the streets lined with heritage-conserved buildings, or the ruins of the old 13th century Kendal Castle I can spot on the hill overlooking us.

I could have happily walked the streets, stopping here and there for a cup of tea at one of the many teahouses manned by lovely and bubbly middle aged women, or for a pint at one of the many historic pubs with welcoming signs and charmingly dingy decor.

But there is much more to Kendal than just it’s beverage options and architecture appreciation.

It’s also the home of the Kendal Mint Cake, a delicious, tongue tingling sweet treat.

But I digress, it is also much more than that too.

My first steam train experience at Lake Windermere, the Lake District, UK

DSC_0199

Sometimes the smallest of experiences can make a strong mark on your soul, create the greatest of memories, and give you such a sense of satisfaction – for lack of a better word.

On a day where we didn’t do much in terms of adventure – in fact, we took it quite easy and had a bit of a ‘lazy day’ – it was interesting to note that our day trip to Lake Windermere gave me so many “travel” feels.

I felt such a strong sense of Wanderlust, but also of completion in terms of travel and adventure.

I just can’t quite put my finger on why exactly, but it’s a nice feeling to have regardless.

Soothing my soul with Alstonville and Wollongbar’s waterfalls

DSC_0318

I’m a proud Northern Rivers girl, which you may have gathered from my ongoing Northern Rivers series.

My region is a very beautiful place – there’s no doubt about that.

While I generally tell people I’m from Lismore, I only really say that because it’s a regional centre that more people know the name of, and it’s where I work.

In fact, the truth is I grew up in Alstonville (Until I was 8), and Wollongbar, and apart from stints living in Sydney for study, and in Lismore itself, I’ve lived in the same house in Wollongbar since 2000.

Celebrating freedom at the Nimbin MardiGrass

DSC_0216

One a year the small Northern Rivers town of Nimbin comes alive for a big weekend of protesting and celebration for the annual Nimbin MardiGrass.

The MardiGrass began 25 years ago as a protest for the legalisation of marijuana, and continues to protest for the same outcome today.

My friend, and fellow YouTuber, Tom, headed to Nimbin to check out the 2017 festivities.

Stunning sights of Lantau Island and the Big Buddha

dsc_0210

Apart from the city sights of Hong Kong, which are not to be missed, there is also a part of Hong Kong that allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of the massive metropolis.

To the northwest of the main part of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Island and Kowloon), lies Lantau Island.

Many people know Lantau Island as the home of Disneyland Hong Kong, but there are some other attractions of the Island too – namely, the Cable Car and Big Buddha.

A startling revelation in my family history – Carbis Bay, Cornwall

dsc_0375

As with when I visited Kesh, in Northern Ireland, earlier on my road trip, my trip south to Cornwall was a special one.

As I’d explored my paternal family history in Kesh, now I was to explore my maternal family history in Carbis Bay, a gorgeous – but gloomy on the days we were there – seaside town in England’s south.

The gorgeous Roman Baths of Bath

dsc_0239

Bath was a little place of heaven on earth for me.

There was nothing particularly outstanding about the day I had there, travel wise at least, but it meant a lot to me personally.

For a day I got to wander around this absolutely gorgeous town, soaking in the history of it before soaking myself into luxurious relaxation in the afternoon – all while hand-in-hand with my man, while we were still blissfully in that soppy “honeymoon” stage.

I’ll always remember my day trip to Bath as one of the happiest and loveliest days of my life, because it was simply blissful (and beautiful!). Continue reading “The gorgeous Roman Baths of Bath”

The breathtaking Cliffs of Moher

DSC_0800

On the western coast of Ireland, there is a little touch of what I imagine to be heaven.

The Cliffs of Moher were undoubtedly my favourite sight that my eyes beheld on my journey through Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Seriously, I fell deeply in love with this place – I could have built a little shack into a rocky hovel of the cliff face and lived there happily ever after.

It felt like the place of fairytales.
