Month 2 Pregnancy Update

Trying to relax and take care of my body as it navigates this new stage has been a big focus this month.

What Month/Week:

Month 2, Week 8

How Big is Baby?

Baby is the size of a kidney bean! About half an inch long.

Weight Gain

2.5kg – a lot of which I think might still be bloating.

Symptoms

So much morning sickness! Or rather, ‘All Day Sickness’. Nauseous all the time, with vomiting many days. Sore, tender breasts. Bloating and digestive issues. Itchy skin. General tiredness/exhaustion.

Cravings

Packet noodles (about the only thing I can actually stomach at the moment). And a few times – pineapple. I ate an entire pineapple one night randomly.

Food Aversions

Everything.

Reflections

This month has been a little tough to be honest, with a lot of morning sickness making me feel pretty rough and a general feeling of exhaustion layering on that. It’s been hard keeping the pregnancy a secret, especially at work when there have been times I’ve either had to run out of the room to vomit, or have had people comment on how pale I looked (from the nausea).

I’ve been trying to take it easy on myself and not beat myself up for things like putting my feet up whenever I can instead of exercising, or eating whatever I can actually stomach rather than the healthiest choice at the buffet so to speak. It’s been a bit tough on my emotions too – feeling so rough has made me feel a bit down, which then leaves me feeling guilty, because I know how lucky I am to be pregnant. I feel like I should be enjoying every moment of this pregnancy, and I’m trying my best to, but admittedly it can be hard when you constantly feel unwell. I know I’m not alone in that feeling though, so that’s a comfort. Dan’s been an amazing support too (as always) so that’s been a huge help while I haven’t been feeling so great. I’m taking solace in the knowledge that the first trimester is often the hardest part of pregnancy for many women, and that the second trimester – often known as the ‘best’ trimester – is not far off for me.
