What’s in my Birth Bag – Second Time Mum

At 36 weeks pregnant, I finally have my birth bag ready for labour and delivery, and so I wanted to show you what I’ve packed!

It’s important to note that this time around, we are planning a Home Birth under NHS care, however, I believe it’s a good idea to have everything I plan to use in labour and immediately afterwards packed together to make things easier in the moment.

Plus if I need to transfer to the birth centre or hospital for any reason, it will be easy for us to grab everything and go. I also have a secondary bag packed in case of a one night hospital stay.

So without further ado, here is what is in my birth bag/s as a second time mum:

Pregnancy Video Diary: First Trimester

I guess the title gives it away if you didn’t know already, but yes, it’s true, I’m pregnant!

My husband Dan and I are expecting our second child around October/November 2023, making our 3 year old daughter, Ada, a big sister!

We are over the moon about this pregnancy, and as with my last pregnancy, I want to take you on the journey with me!

Being a 2nd time mum, I’ve found I haven’t had as much time to document this pregnancy as I did with my first, so unlike last time, where I shared month-by-month pregnancy update videos, this time I am committing to just three videos – one for each trimester.

Minimalist Newborn Baby Essentials Checklist

While there are lots of lists out there that would have you believe you need a mountain of “stuff” for a baby, we decided to go down a more minimalist route with what we purchased for our little one.

We also made a conscious decision to make having a baby as low impact on the environment as we could, so sourced as much as we could secondhand, and made environmentally friendly choices such as using cloth nappies and cloth wipes, for example.

I made this video and blog post before baby arrived, but now looking back with an almost 6-month-old baby, I’m pleased to say this list worked perfectly for us during bub’s newborn stage. We found we had everything we needed!

My Top 10 Pregnancy Essentials

Pregnancy is a complete mash-up of a time. On the one hand, it’s absolutely amazing – I mean, you’re growing a human being! And it’s also really hard – I mean, YOU’RE GROWING A HUMAN BEING!

As such, there are some things that can make your pregnancy experience easier and more comfortable, or at least take the edge off some of the more problematic pregnancy symptoms.

Nursery Tour! Our secondhand, towards zero waste set up

I thought I’d show you around what we’ve got set up for baby’s “nursery”.

I say “nursery” tentatively because really all their ‘stuff’ is stored in our spare room whilst baby will be sleeping in our room for the first six months at least anyway.

For us, lowering our waste and environmental impact is really important, so this comes into the set up a lot – from all the secondhand purchases we made over buying new where we could, to our cloth nappy stash that we hope to use from birth, we’ve tried our hardest to make bringing a child into this world as low-impact as we can (but, of course, we know there is always room for improvement!).

What’s in my Hospital Bag?

My bag and the bag for baby that we’ll be taking to the hospital

Since I am getting rather close to giving birth, I thought I would share with you my packing list for my hospital bag.

I really enjoy watching these kinds of videos on YouTube myself of late, so I thought I would make one of my own.

NOTE: We’re aiming for a Birth Centre delivery attached to a Hospital, using Hypnobirthing, and with a mindset towards low waste.
