Pregnancy Video Diary: Third Trimester

Wow, third trimester already – time really is flying by this second pregnancy!

This trimester was very exciting, and was very smooth sailing until around 36 weeks pregnant – and even then, it luckily wasn’t too chaotic.

Right near the end of this trimester we also celebrated a very special day – our firstborn baby’s 4th birthday! Oh how relieved we were that baby boy didn’t decide to arrive on the same day as his sister’s birthday – I don’t think that would have gone down well!

What’s in my Birth Bag – Second Time Mum

At 36 weeks pregnant, I finally have my birth bag ready for labour and delivery, and so I wanted to show you what I’ve packed!

It’s important to note that this time around, we are planning a Home Birth under NHS care, however, I believe it’s a good idea to have everything I plan to use in labour and immediately afterwards packed together to make things easier in the moment.

Plus if I need to transfer to the birth centre or hospital for any reason, it will be easy for us to grab everything and go. I also have a secondary bag packed in case of a one night hospital stay.

So without further ado, here is what is in my birth bag/s as a second time mum:

Pregnancy Video Diary: Second Trimester

Wow, this pregnancy is really flying by!

I guess it really is true what they say about second and subsequent pregnancies seeming to go much faster than your first.

Overall, I’ve found my second trimester pretty wonderful – morning sickness and food aversions finally dissipated, my energy came back, and I was able to keep quite active, which I found an all around positive experience.

Pregnancy Video Diary: First Trimester

I guess the title gives it away if you didn’t know already, but yes, it’s true, I’m pregnant!

My husband Dan and I are expecting our second child around October/November 2023, making our 3 year old daughter, Ada, a big sister!

We are over the moon about this pregnancy, and as with my last pregnancy, I want to take you on the journey with me!

Being a 2nd time mum, I’ve found I haven’t had as much time to document this pregnancy as I did with my first, so unlike last time, where I shared month-by-month pregnancy update videos, this time I am committing to just three videos – one for each trimester.

Minimalist Newborn Baby Essentials Checklist

While there are lots of lists out there that would have you believe you need a mountain of “stuff” for a baby, we decided to go down a more minimalist route with what we purchased for our little one.

We also made a conscious decision to make having a baby as low impact on the environment as we could, so sourced as much as we could secondhand, and made environmentally friendly choices such as using cloth nappies and cloth wipes, for example.

I made this video and blog post before baby arrived, but now looking back with an almost 6-month-old baby, I’m pleased to say this list worked perfectly for us during bub’s newborn stage. We found we had everything we needed!

Top 10 Postpartum Essentials

Postpartum Essentials

The postpartum stage is a beautiful, difficult, overwhelming mess of a time. It’s a shock to the system, whether it’s your first child or fourth.

I know I had a tough time adapting to motherhood and all that comes with it after the birth of my baby girl, Ada: The sleeplessness, the full-body exhaustion, the mental load of postpartum.

To help any other soon-to-be mothers out there, I’ve compiled a list of my postpartum essentials – just like I did with my pregnancy essentials list – to help you through this hectic time.

Motherhood: The hardest thing I’ve ever done

Motherhood is hard

Motherhood is hard.

Harder than I ever thought it would be.

There, I said it.

Everyone acts like being a mum is this blissful little bubble that feels like rainbows and butterflies 24/7.

In actual fact, motherhood is a rollercoaster – yes, it soars upwards into those moments of heaven on earth, but then catapults into stunning depths of stomach-sinking emotions.

6 Weeks Postpartum Update

I’ve finally gotten around to editing and posting this postpartum update I filmed when I was 6 weeks postpartum (Sorry it took so long, but I was kinda busy being a new mum to a newborn baby, funnily enough).

It goes without saying that the postpartum time can be HARD. It certainly was for me – more mentally than physically – and I’m sure it is for many other mums across the globe.

I hope sharing a little bit of what my postpartum time was like helps others who may be in a similar situation.
