What Month/Week:
Month 4, Week 17
How Big is Baby?
Baby is the size of a turnip! About 5 inches long.
Weight Gain
3.1kg.
Symptoms
My morning sickness has finally left the building (YAY!) and my itchiness has died down quite a bit but is still lurking around. I’ve also had some dizziness this month due to low blood pressure, a regular occurrence in pregnant women due to the expanding blood vessels and therefore growing blood volume in your body to accomodate baby. I had one day where I unfortunately didn’t make it to a chair in time (as the advice is to sit or lie down as soon as you get a dizzy spell) and ended up collapsing to the floor which wasn’t great, but I didn’t lose consciousness or anything so it wasn’t overly concerning according to my doctor.
Cravings
None! The packet noodle craving has finally disappeared.
Food Aversions
None! My appetite has finally returned! Although some days I can’t handle the crusts on my toast, weirdly, but that’s about it.
Reflections
This month has been a really good one – my morning sickness has died off and now I’m starting to get some of my energy back. So physically I’m feeling SO much better than I have been. In addition, it was this month that we finally shared the news of our pregnancy publicly, so I’m feeling so happy that it’s not a secret anymore and I can talk about it openly.
A highlight of this month had to be attending Dan’s Rugby Club’s annual end-of-season dinner, right at the end of my 17th week after we’d announced the pregnancy about five days before. It was my first time wearing my bump out on display and, I’ll admit, it felt really lovely. I know some people struggle with their changing body shape during pregnancy, but I feel like I’m (so far) embracing it wholeheartedly. I honestly feel so beautiful with my growing bump, but maybe that’s just because I’ve daydreamed about being pregnant for years.
