A Day In Transylvania, Romania

Transylvania often conjures pictures into ones mind of great looming castles and murderous vampires that transform into bats and fly across the mountains.

Well, one part of that is correct at least (hint: It’s not the vampires).

Some people don’t even realise Transylvania is a real place, not just a made-up land from storybooks. However, it is – and until the Romanian Unification in 1918 it was its own province.

The region of Transylvania located in the centre to north west of Romania, and is bordered on the east and south by the Carpathian Mountain Range.

A wicked weekend at Alton Towers theme park

The sun wasn’t out, but our guns were!

As a foreigner living in the United Kingdom, it’s almost a rite of passage for me to visit Alton Towers, one of the major theme parks in England.

Practically everyone who has grown up in the UK, or lived there for some time, has visited the park before.

But, after almost a year living in Bristol, I (an adrenaline junkie and rollercoaster lover) had somehow not gotten around to it yet!

So, to combat this problem, recently Dan, our friends Will and Elyse, and I headed to to the Towers for a weekend of fun.

Whales and Quad Bikes, oh my!

Reykjavik is one of the most beautiful and cosy – or to steal a term from the Danes, Hyggeligt – cities I’ve visited.

From the main streets lined with traditional lamp posts, strung together with pretty ropes of fairy lights following the Scandinavian-style buildings in a row, to the more secluded areas just a few blocks back from the main hub, decorated with greenery and flowers next to a frozen pond, to the cosy interiors of the cafes and bars along the city’s streets, there is plenty to admire from an aesthetic point of view in Reykjavik.

It’s all of these things which make Iceland’s capital such a snug place to be. It feels homely, almost – which is a rather large feat for a capital city.

Welcomed to Iceland with a snowstorm

Iceland has been one of those countries Dan and I have been wanting to travel to for a long time.

When we realised we both wanted to visit this Scandinavian bucket-list item, it quickly became our next adventure to plan.

We fell into a burrow of internet searches, guidebooks and travel blogs, finding out all the information we could to plan the trip of our dreams (Well, one of them, at least).

“Should we evacuate?” Town alarm wakes us up in Arequipa, Peru

As I was suffering from the flu mixed with altitude sickness, while my roommate was suffering from altitude sickness mixed with what would later be revealed as a lung infection, we both decided to spend our quiet afternoon in Arequipa, Peru, resting up.

We’d spent the morning with our tour group exploring some local sights of Arequipa after arriving on an early flight from Lima that morning, and decided it would be best for our bodies to lay down for a nap.

We’d barely been laid down for 15 minutes when all of a sudden:

“Wwweeeeerrrrrrrrooooooooo wwwwweeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooo!”
