Pregnancy Video Diary: First Trimester

I guess the title gives it away if you didn’t know already, but yes, it’s true, I’m pregnant!

My husband Dan and I are expecting our second child around October/November 2023, making our 3 year old daughter, Ada, a big sister!

We are over the moon about this pregnancy, and as with my last pregnancy, I want to take you on the journey with me!

Being a 2nd time mum, I’ve found I haven’t had as much time to document this pregnancy as I did with my first, so unlike last time, where I shared month-by-month pregnancy update videos, this time I am committing to just three videos – one for each trimester.

Fears and feelings on COVID-19 pandemic

Tracksuit pants, endless cups of tea, Netflix binges, and napping with my baby – Life in isolation from Coronavirus, or COVID-19, on a day-to-day basis isn’t all that different from my life as a mum on maternity leave, but with a crushing weight of anxiety and a whole heap of life disruption sprinkled (or, rather – poured heavily) on top.

We’ve all been affected one way or another by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Either you’re self-isolating to help flatten the curve of the outbreak and keep others safe (Or you’re refusing to do so, complaining that your football has been cancelled, protesting that this has all gone “too far” and think it’s all a bunch of bullshit – in which case: You, my friend, are bullshit).

You or someone you love may be in actual quarantine with symptoms or following exposure to the virus. You may be working from home or unable to work at all. Your children may not be able to attend school or nursery.

Surprising my family in Australia

I’ve been living in the UK for eight months now, and it’s safe to say that I’ve been missing my family, friends, and home quite a bit during that time.

So Dan and I decided to have a little bit of fun and arrive in Australia for my Gran’s 80th Birthday a week earlier than we’d told my family we’d be arriving – getting there just in time to celebrate my Mum’s birthday too!

My First British Christmas

My first Christmas in the UK was exactly how I imagined it to be:

Filled with love, lots of smiles with my family in law, and, of course, more layers of clothing than needed in Australia.

I’ve been dreaming of a winter Christmas for a long time.

Even before I was in a long distance relationship with Dan, I’d always imagined spending at least one Christmas in the northern hemisphere, just to experience a cold (or, if I was lucky, a White) Christmas.

A startling revelation in my family history – Carbis Bay, Cornwall

As with when I visited Kesh, in Northern Ireland, earlier on my road trip, my trip south to Cornwall was a special one.

As I’d explored my paternal family history in Kesh, now I was to explore my maternal family history in Carbis Bay, a gorgeous – but gloomy on the days we were there – seaside town in England’s south.
