Jasper is such a spectacular looking place – all around you are beautiful trees, mountains, lakes and canyons.
However, even when you’re in paradise, hell can always be a millimetre away.
Unfortunately for my mum and I, that was about to become so true.

It’s referred to as “one of the most beautiful highways in the world” and it’s not hard to see why.
The journey along the Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper really brings a whole new meaning to the term “scenic route”.
Mum and I travelled up this beautiful stretch of road on a bus tour with SunDog Tours, booked through Viator – a brilliant decision.
Not only did we get from one destination to the other, but we got to stop off at so many magical sights on the way.
One of the best ways to see a new place in a short amount of time is to book a day tour.
You get the local knowledge, transport around to all the best sights, and – if you’re travelling alone – company for the day.

Cloudy skies, rainy days, bright green trees, and “thank yous” and “eh’s” left, right and centre – we were definitely in Canada.
It was in Edmonton, our first destination, when I realised the “Canadians are so polite” belief is not a myth – seriously, this nation of people were so lovely.
Everyone would smile at you, say “hello there” when walking down the street, and help you out if you needed it – without even asking.
