Oh Argentina, you won me over instantly.
With the beautiful architecture, delicious food, sultry wines, and sexy tango, I think Buenos Aires is a strong competitor for the City of Love – move over, Paris.
Of course, one must start their exploration of Buenos Aires in the most photographed area of the city – the neighbourhood of La Boca.
The colouful bricks will leave you spellbound (as will the cafes and restaurants nearby).
Spend some time there watching the world go by – there will be many street performers out for your entertainment, as it is quite a tourist area – but don’t avoid it just because of that!
Recoleta Cemetery, the oldest official cemetery in the city, famous for being the resting place of Evita Peron (See if you can find her!).
The city – literally, it was built to look like a city, for the dead, and it does – holds 6,400 mausoleums, if you can wrap your head around that.
From famous icons, to children, to family crypts, you’ll find all sorts of history among the “streets”.
It’s amazing to explore, but there is a sadness there, of course.
Especially when you see the crypts that obviously don’t have caretakers any more – either through the death of the bloodline, or lack of money – the smashed glass of the doors and windows, caving in of bricks, and horrible states of some of the caskets.
But it’s all a beautiful history to take it, and I would highly suggest it – I’m a fan of TV shows like Supernatural, so I find cemeteries quite interesting (I’ve actually been known to spend nights exploring cemeteries with friends, just for fun).
After focusing on death for so long, it’s a nice idea to pop over to the Plaza de las Naciones Unidas, where you’ll find the Floralis Generica, a famous flower sculpture which signifies rebirth.
Visit the park with your friends, relax and enjoy a drink or a picnic in the park.
If you want to get really Argentinian, enjoy a group serving of mate tea, which is served in a special gourd and drunk through a metal straw, being passed around from person to person.
As soon I saw your footage from the cemetery, I thought this really looks like it could the filming location for The Originals! haha, and then you said it!
