Beaujolais: French countryside, chateaus and champagne

A journey through the French countryside is something you want to have a window seat for.

Ordinary hills and meadows, even the tarmac of a road, looks even more beautiful in France. Or maybe that’s just my imagination. 

However, as we journeyed from Paris down to Beaujolais, I spent a lot of time just staring out the window as the beauty of this wonderful country.

Stopping at Fontainebleau a few of us skipped a snack break to take a look through Chateau de Fontainebleau, an early 16th century Palace, the only royal and imperial chateau that has been entirely conserved since the fall of the French monarchy.

I must say, it was pretty amazing – although I wish I had more time to look through it. We ran through the halls and rooms to get a glimpse of the spectacular history inside before we have to bolt back to our bus.

Totally worth it, for the one wing we saw of it. I can only imagine what the rest looks like.

When we finally arrived at Beaujolais and Contiki’s own Chateau de Cruix, I was once again taken aback by the beauty. The Chateau and it’s ground themselves are amazing, but the view was breathtaking. It was one you wanted to stare at forever.

A wine tasting, a trek, Chateau animals, and a picnic at the “Top of the World” helped Beaujolais take a piece of my heart.
