Sydney may be 1000km away, but it’s only an 1.5hr flight away from my nearest airport, Ballina.
So luckily, on Sunday I was able to visit Sydney for the day to see one of my close friends, Rachel, who recently moved there.
I found myself in a bit of an ethical and emotional pickle whilst formulating this blog post and my latest video.
You see, as a vegan, I feel very aware that I may be judged negatively for the experience I’m about to share with you.
But I’ve just got to square my shoulders and bear that, if it does come to that.
See, in January, when my British boyfriend visited me here in Australia, we took a trip an hour and a half up the highway to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, so I could introduce him to some of Australia’s most famous native animals.

I’m a proud Northern Rivers girl, which you may have gathered from my ongoing Northern Rivers series.
My region is a very beautiful place – there’s no doubt about that.
While I generally tell people I’m from Lismore, I only really say that because it’s a regional centre that more people know the name of, and it’s where I work.
In fact, the truth is I grew up in Alstonville (Until I was 8), and Wollongbar, and apart from stints living in Sydney for study, and in Lismore itself, I’ve lived in the same house in Wollongbar since 2000.

Just outside the main centre of Byron Bay is a little haven of proportional self-sustainability.
The Farm, found as you travel towards Byron Bay, is a unique place.
Not only does The Farm house an award-winning restaurant, Three Blue Ducks, but it showcases the whole production line of what ends up on your plate

When I say “Byron Bay” what do you think of?
If “chilled out beachside bliss” was your answer, then 10 points to Gryffindor!
Well, that’s how I think of Byron Bay, anyway – and I’ve lived only 25 minutes from the beautiful coastline town for most of my life so I feel I’ve done adequate research on the subject.

Ballina is, without a doubt, one of the best spots along the east coast of Australia.
And no, I’m not just biased because I grew up on the Northern Rivers.
Well, maybe a little, but hear me out.
My opinion of this gorgeous, coastside town must have some weight to it, as every year people come from all over to holiday here, while seniors in their thousands have set up permanent camp here in their retirement.
It’s a pretty nice place, let’s just say that.
Having my English boyfriend fly over and surprise me for New Years and my birthday gave me a good chance to explore my own region, while giving him the grand tour of the Northern Rivers.
That’s how we ended up walking the streets of Nimbin and making the rainforest trek to Protesters Falls one rainy day – and how you are now reading Part 2 of my Northern Rivers series!

This is the first post in my series on the Northern Rivers, my home region.
One the best things about Lismore, the regional centre of the area I live in, is probably it’s wide range of food on offer.
From Japanese, to Mexican, Indian, Thai, Italian, Chinese, Mediterranean, fine dining, or a good old pub meal – you can find it all in Lismore
The small city is overflowing with restaurants, and has an epic cafe culture which leaves you with an overwhelming amount of choice for your Sunday morning brunch.
That’s why it’s only appropriate that one of the biggest events of the year in Lismore is the Eat the Street festival.
Although I try to live my life without regrets, I do have a few when it comes to travel.
“Why?” You ask. “How could someone possibly regret travel?”
Well that’s just it – I don’t regret travel itself, but there are a few travel experiences I’ve had which I now wish I hadn’t.
Let me explain:

I can show you the world,
Shining, shimmering, splendid,
Tell me princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes,
Take you wonder by wonder….
What a magnificent world Disney takes us too – when we pop on a film, listen to a Disney song, or engross ourselves some other way in the stories of the characters of Disney.
What fun it was then, when I got the chance to indulge my inner child (Basically still 25-year-old me anyway) with a visit to Disneyland Hong Kong!
