A startling revelation in my family history – Carbis Bay, Cornwall

As with when I visited Kesh, in Northern Ireland, earlier on my road trip, my trip south to Cornwall was a special one.

As I’d explored my paternal family history in Kesh, now I was to explore my maternal family history in Carbis Bay, a gorgeous – but gloomy on the days we were there – seaside town in England’s south.

Environmental wake up call: Eden Project, Cornwall

The environment is a topic of conversation very close to my heart.

I was always involved with the “green” groups at high school, and went on to continue those interest groups in the years after.

I’ve taken many steps myself to reduce my impact on the environment, and I care a lot about protecting our planet from destruction.

Therefore it was a no-brainer that I would visit the Eden Project while I was in Cornwall, England.

The gorgeous Roman Baths of Bath

Bath was a little place of heaven on earth for me.

There was nothing particularly outstanding about the day I had there, travel wise at least, but it meant a lot to me personally.

For a day I got to wander around this absolutely gorgeous town, soaking in the history of it before soaking myself into luxurious relaxation in the afternoon – all while hand-in-hand with my man, while we were still blissfully in that soppy “honeymoon” stage.

The UK Roadtrip begins with a visit to Stonehenge and Bristol

Exploring the United Kingdom and Ireland in depth has been on my bucket list for a long time.

So I was pretty psyched to be heading to England, Scotland and Ireland (both Northern and the Republic of) for a three week road trip during April – May of this year, in a way I’d never travelled abroad before – with a partner, in a car, without much planning.

2013 Marnie would never have considered travel without at least a daily itinerary and booked in accommodation in advance…
