The romantic side of India in Udaipur

Udaipur, I feel, is like the Venice of India – it’s based around a whole lot of water (rivers and lakes), its quite artistic, it has amazing food, has a whole lot of old style building surrounding windy and narrow cobblestone roads, and it’s got a very romantic feel – I mean, look at that sunset!

We watched a number of sunsets by the water while in Udaipur – once on land, once on a boat on Lake Pichola.

Both are recommended, and both were incredibly beautiful.

While in Udaipur, head to the Bagore Ki Haveli show by the river – it will stun you.

(How a woman pirouettes with that many pots balancing on her head is beyond me…)

It’s a great idea to organise an auto rickshaw (or tuk tuk) to take you on a ‘tour’, as we did.

They can pick you up for the day, take you to all the major sights, while waiting for you outside, and then drop you back at your hotel or hostel at the end of the day.

All for a very cheap price, too.

I’m sure your accommodation can help you organise this.

Things not to miss are the Garden of Maidens and the Mansapurna Karni Mata Ropeway, trust me!

I think this was Fateh Sagar Lake – but don’t take my word on that…

Garden of the Maidens (Sahelion Ki Bari) – how romantic does a stroll in this look?

While you’re in Udaipur, don’t forget to eat yourself sick – seriously, this place had amazing food!

I ate my favourite dish of my entire India trip here, a delicious stuffed capsicum curry on a little rooftop terrace restaurant which I forgot to get the name of, I’m afraid.

It was fantastic however – you’ll just have to take my word for it.

While in town, we also attended an art class, and went to a cooking class to learn how to make authentic Indian food – both highly suggested activities in Udaipur, being such a creative city that it is.
