Lake Titicaca is the biggest lake in South America, lying in both Peruvian and Bolivian regions.
It’s also one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever been.
Thousands of people live on floating islands made from layers and layers of straw on Titicaca – a completely different lifestyle than most.
Definitely different from me, so it was amazing to see the culture there.
We visited one of the floating islands, learnt about how they’re made, how the people survive, and their day to day life.
We even got to dress up in traditional clothing, and hang out with the women of the island, who were so sweet and told us their personal stories.
We then headed to the island of Taquile, which has it’s own unique culture, which we got to learn about.
We ate, danced and played soccer with them, and shared a really beautiful afternoon.
Walking around the island was so gorgeous, it was such a picturesque view walking along the cliffs above the water.
Titicaca is just such a vast lake – with a surface area of 8,372 square kilometres – it was hard to imagine we weren’t actually in the middle of the ocean when looking out across the big blue.
If you visit Peru, please promise me you’ll visit Lake Titicaca and Taquile – it was such an amazing experience.
Seeing different cultures – learning different ways of life, and seeing others so happy when they have so “little” (or at least what we believe to be so little) is a life-changing experience.

Definitely you will! Yes they did, beautiful scarves and handmade blankets, cushion covers, bracelets. I bought a lovely scarf and a cushion cover – which starred a picture of the woman who made it and her children in a reed boat on it, such a nice momento.
I bought a super sterling silver pendant and chain in Cusco. The prices there were SOOO much better than here US
