White water rafting in Sarapiqui, Costa Rica

What a place to wake up!
What a place to wake up!

Did you know that Costa Rican cacao is some of the finest in the world? That means Costa Rica is a haven for chocolate lovers.

There’s an endless number of chocolate or cacao tours you can do, to learn about the process of turning a cacao fruit into delicious chocolate, and that’s one of the things we did in Sarapiqui.

Totally worth it – if you’re a chocolate lover like me, I’d totally recommend it.

You simply cannot visit Costa Rica without purchasing some chocolate (or coffee, but I’ll get to that further on in my travels).

Another drawcard of Sarapiqui is the Sarapiqui River, one of the best places for white water rafting.

One of the funnest experiences I have ever had!

I’d been white water rafting once before, when I was in Austria, but this was a way more intense experience – plus our guide was hilarious, making us do crazy things no other group was doing: Pushing the raft out into the river then telling making us swim out, catch up and climb into it, all through the freezing water; spinning us in circles as we went down a rapid he titled ‘The Washing Machine’; making us go backwards and blind down another he titled ‘The Surprise’; and dumping us all out of the raft again just for the hell of it. He was great fun.

All I’ll say is – if you get the chance to go white water rafting on the Sarapiqui River, don’t you DARE say no – it may be the best time you ever have.
