Playing with snakes down the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

One thing I love about travelling in Southeast Asia is the laid-back, chilled out atmosphere of the place.

It’s all about kicking back, relaxing, and just trusting that everything will happen in good time.

Bus stuck in hellish traffic on a crazy road, with as many potholes as there are motorbikes? Don’t worry, you’ll get to your destination when you’re obviously meant to.

Stuck on a boat journey with “no way” to entertain yourself because you couldn’t charge your beloved iPod? No worries, have a coconut to drink from and take in the scenery.

Coconut anyone?
Coconut anyone?

Nothings an issue, it’s all just as it’s meant to be.

And I love it.

There’s also the culture. It’s imperative when travelling that you don’t come with an apprehensive attitude towards another culture.

Rather, embrace it with open arms – grab it by the balls and jump straight into it.

I’m quite an anxious person, but in Southeast Asia I learnt the art of relaxation and just going with the flow.

Fighting the urge to run, and just going with the flow instead..

I’m can also be a bit of a picky eater, but on this trip down the Mekong, when served up snake and rat, I just got down to it and shoved that “weird” cuisine down my gob.

And it wasn’t half bad.

What’s something you’ve learned from another culture?
