Travel lessons from Pakbeng, Laos: Relax, and take it as it comes

Cruising down the Mekong River in a long boat, sipping on a beer and playing cards with fellow travellers.

Sounds like a wonderful time, right?

I can tell you, it was.

Southeast Asia is a pretty cruise-y place for travellers.

It’s a great place to travel if you want to sit back and relax, experience a different and slower-paced culture, or backpack around and change your plans on a whim, Southeast Asia is the perfect place for you.

That became very clear to me while travelling through Pakbeng to Luang Prabang.

Travelling in Southeast Asia is almost a rite of passage for many Australians, and travellers of other nationalities, these days.

I have a suspicion the appeal lies in all the differences between our own cultures – at least for me.

What can I say? It was nice to relax, and live as the locals do.

When in Laos!

And, of course, to visit the cultural sites, like the Buddhist caves we visited on these two days down the Mekong to Luang Prabang, is such a cool and different experience.
